Here’s the quick & dirty run down: Therapy services are for individuals who meet criteria for specific mental health diagnoses or disorders, including Trauma Related Disorders, Anxiety Disorders, Mood Disorders, Depressive Disorders, Personality Disorders etc. Therapy is a medical service, and in the United States it is a regulated industry that must comply with various aspects & standards including legal disclaimers, right to privacy, limits of confidentiality by mandated reporters, a comprehensive mental health assessment, treatment planning and use of evidenced based practices.
Not everyone needs a medical service for a mental health diagnosis, but almost all of us can benefit from receiving support in navigating life’s stressors and optimizing our mental & emotional wellness and nervous system regulation.
Coaching services are for high achieving women who are not needing mental health treatment and not wanting to be supported beneath the medical disease model of care. There are many types of coaching out there, and one benefit of working with a coach who has a background in clinical psychology is that they have been especially trained in research based methods.
